The People’s Choice Awards are coming up on Wednesday night, but there’s one big name promoters won’t be fretting over: Katy Perry’s. The singer, who is up seven awards, has decided to opt out of attending this year’s live program. The news comes just days after People’s Choice Awards event coordinators uninvited ex-hubby Russell Brand to the show.

Although Perry didn’t officially give a reason for cancelling her appearance at the event, the brouhaha surrounding Brand’s un-invitation coupled with Perry’s tumultuous last few weeks probably helped to sway her to the decision she eventually made. Perry took to Twitter yesterday to assure her fans she was still interested in their voting.
“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS.”

Though her move to miss the program might put a few hitches in the show, which is especially true if she wins multiple awards, the event will go on. According to E! Online, at the very least, The People’s Choice Awards executive producer Mark Burnett doesn’t seem to be too shaken up over Perry’s no show.
“It’s understandable. Things like this happen all the time.”

That’s probably the most level-headed sort of statement anyone can make when a number one star decides not to show. He’s right, though, if ever Perry needed a break from the limelight, it’s right now. Besides, she has two massive shows in Indonesia on the 19th and the 22nd to prepare for. Pop Blend wishes Perry the best of luck in her future endeavors.
