Christina Grimmie, best known to many fans for her third place finish on Season 6 of The Voice, was tragically murdered last night in Orlando, Florida. The singer was in town to play a concert with her punk band Before You Exit. Following the show, she was speaking with fans when the shooter walked up and opened fire. She was taken to the hospital but died several hours later of her injuries. She was only twenty-two-years-old.
Details about what exactly happened are still a little bit fuzzy as cops investigate, but an overall picture of the events has emerged. According to TMZ, Christina Grimmie was at a meet-and-greet with fans after the Before You Exit show ended. The unidentified assailant was in the room and approached her. He quietly pulled out a gun and just began shooting. The victim's brother, who is also in Before You Exit, reportedly tackled the shooter, and following a struggle, the assailant turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. Paramedics rushed Grimmie to the hospital, but her injuries were too severe. She passed away early this morning.
It's likely more information and possibly a motive will come out in the coming days to help explain what happened, but whatever the reason might be, it will be senseless. All that really matters is that a 22-year-old woman and a brilliant talent has been lost to the world. You can check out Grimmie's first performance on The Voice below...
