The Bachelor franchise has given plenty of people the chance to find true love on camera over the years, although some relationships have definitely gone better than others. Now, two Bachelor in Paradise stars have officially gotten engaged after a season that got off to a very rough start. Yes, Bachelor in Paradise contestants Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth are engaged to be married.
Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth met on the currently-airing fourth season of Bachelor in Paradise, and it was clear right away that they were having more luck in this series than they did on their earlier ventures in the franchise. Nolan first appeared in Season 21 of The Bachelor, in which Nick Viall was looking for a lady love. For his part, Peth appeared in Season 12 of The Bachelorette as a candidate for JoJo Fletcher's heart. Neither were successful on their first attempts to find reality TV love, but it seems that their struggles on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette were worth the heartache, as they're now engaged.
The engagement happened during the taping of the Bachelor in Paradise aftershow on August 30, according to People. The news should come as a relief to any fans who were concerned about the interactions between Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth in the previous episode. Although they discussed potentially continuing their relationship in real life after Bachelor of Paradise came to an end, Peth didn't seem to take Nolan's concerns very seriously. It could have been a sign of trouble to come for the lovebirds. Clearly they settled their differences.
The engagement is a bright spot in a season that has been overshadowed by a controversy from the very beginning of production. Back when the show was just beginning to film for Season 4, crew members became concerned when contestant DeMario Jackson seemingly engaged in sex with fellow contestant Corinne Olympios when she was limp and unable to consent. Production was halted, and an investigation was ordered.
The whole situation was quite ugly, and nobody seemed entirely clear on what happened, although it was obvious that both contestants had been drinking quite a lot. Despite the possibility of legal action from Corinne Olympios, the matter was settled when an investigation determined that no wrongdoing had occurred, and production started up again, with a new rule in place about how much contestants get to drink on the show. Neither Corinne Olympios nor DeMario Jackson returned to Bachelor on Paradise once production began again, but Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth both did in what sounds like a solid decision.
We can only hope that they have what it takes to stick together in the long run. Not all couples who find each other on the various Bachelor series get their happily-ever-after together. Only time will tell if Taylor Nolan and Derek Peth will end up married to each other.
The Season 4 finale of Bachelor in Paradise airs on Monday, September 11 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Swing by our fall TV premiere schedule for your other viewing options now and in the coming weeks.
