New Roseanne Trailer Gives Fans First Look At Johnny Galecki's Return As David
Audiences are so close to the queen of primetime sitcoms' return, with ABC's Roseanne set to bring nostalgic viewers back into the Conner family members' lives for the spring. (Read our review!) We've gotten a good look at many of Lanford's most familiar faces in previous trailers and images, but strangely absent has been that of current Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki, whose David Healy was only confirmed to return a few months ago. Now, though, Roseanne's latest trailer has finally offered up our first look at 2018 David, and he's looking pretty...David.
After more than a decade of The Big Bang Theory, Johnny Galecki basically just is Leonard Hofstadter for many TV viewers, but it didn't take all that much to flip his appearance in a way that made David instantly pop out. Strange as it is, the David look can apparently be pulled off with merely a light denim jacket, more hair mousse and concentrated stubble. (The lack of eyewear does distinguishes him from the more studious Leonard.) Rubbing the back of his head awkwardly also feels spot-on for the character.
Our first look at David also delivers the best joke from the Roseanne trailers so far. As he remarks about how the room looks exactly the same as it did when everyone was kids, Sara Gilbert's Darlene says it was due to the "decorating choice called poverty". Zing! Unfortunately, the trailer didn't offer any context for where David has been and what his relationship is with Darlene and their two children, Harris (Emma Kinney) and Mark (Ames Mcnamara). The actor's involvement had been up in the air for quite a while, given his commitment to CBS' Big Bang Theory, and I'd half-assumed Roseanne would explain it with him being away on business or something. But as you can see in the full trailer below, he sounds like he hasn't been inside the Conner home in quite a while, possibly indicating he and Darlene aren't together anymore.
How will that get explained, and how long will it take the show to get to that explanation? And will they explain what happened to David's brother Mark, and how that led to his own son taking the name? Also, will that drywall joke lead to a new fashion trend?
Roseanne's revival will make its special one-hour debut on ABC on Tuesday, March 27, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, you can catc Johnny Galecki on The Big Bang Theory every Thursday night on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET. And for those who want a little something to watch while waiting, head to our midseason premiere schedule.
