60 Minutes' Lesley Stahl Finally Shared Her Coronavirus Story

Lesley Stahl on CBS News

It goes without saying that the coronavirus pandemic has had major effects on different aspects of our lives, and people are still being impacted by it daily. But in the midst of the uncertainty, many have stepped up to share their personal experiences with the virus in an attempt to help educate and encourage the public. Now, 60 Minutes host Lesley Stahl has revealed that she contracted the disease, and she’s opening up about her battle with it.

Lesley Stahl closed this week’s episode of 60 Minutes by disclosing that she tested positive COVID-19. The veteran journalist began her closing monologue by stating one of the first rules of journalism and how it related to her situation:

One of the rules of journalism is ‘Don’t become part of the story.’ But instead of covering the pandemic, I was one of the more than one million Americans who did become part of it.

Stahl went on to explain that she wasn’t the only 60 Minutes staff member to test positive for the virus. One co-worker showed almost no symptoms, while others exhibited more than a few. With this, Stahl stressed that each case is different.

After spending two weeks in bed with pneumonia, Lesley Stahl, who admits she was “really scared,” went to the hospital and was met by a tired, but dedicated, staff:

I found an overworked, nearly overwhelmed staff; every one of them kind, sympathetic, gentle and caring from the moment I arrived until the moment days later when I was wheeled out through a gauntlet of cheering medical workers.

She would then finish up the show by thanking her care providers and emphasizing just how much they deserve recognition for what they’ve done and continue to due during this situation:

Thanks to them, like so many other patients, I am well now. Tonight, we owe them our gratitude, our admiration and, in some cases, our lives.

Lesley Stahl is known for her ability to accurately convey her thoughts and feelings through her words, and this recent monologue is no different. You can check out the entire segment for yourself down below:

With this, Stahl now joins a host of other celebrities who have come forward with their COVID-19 stories. Fellow journalist George Stephanopoulos also tested positive and announced his diagnosis and explained his symptoms during a live broadcast of Good Morning America.

Tom Hanks was one of the first high-profile figures to contract the virus and, even after recovering from it, he’s still been working to inform the public and provide aid in the fight against the virus.

It’s good to know Lesley Stahl has recovered from the coronavirus, and it’s ever better to see that she’s doing what she can to help keep the public informed. Keep it here at CinemaBlend for more news from the world of film and TV.
