The current television season is nearing an end on the 2026 TV schedule, and networks are starting to make decisions about next season. This means that fans are on edge waiting to see if their favorites live to see another year or get a premature end. Among those still awaiting its fate is ABC’s Will Trent, and its star, Ramón Rodriguez, is feeling bittersweet after wrapping Season 4.

The fourth season of the procedural premiered in January, unlike most shows on the Disney-owned network, which premiered in the fall. ABC has been renewing a handful of shows already for next season, but Will Trent still doesn’t have a confirmation for a fifth season. Regardless of a renewal or cancellation, though, Rodriguez, who plays the titular special agent, is feeling all the love. He took to his Instagram to celebrate wrapping on Season 4 with a lengthy and heartfelt message:

Since Will Trent only premiered its new season in January, it makes sense that ABC might want to wait a little bit longer to make a decision. Thirteen episodes have aired, uninterrupted, so it should only be a matter of time before an announcement is made. Seeing how much Will Trent means to Rodriguez, though, makes me hope even more that the show comes back, because it’s clear it holds a special place in his heart, as well as the cast, crew, and the fans.

Meanwhile, as previously mentioned, ABC has started renewing shows for next season. As per usual, Abbott Elementary kicked things off and will be coming back for Season 6. 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville will be returning for Seasons 9 and 2, respectively, while High Potential will be getting a new showrunner going into its third season. The latest renewal, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise, is Grey’s Anatomy, which is officially coming back for Season 23.

Disney+ + Hulu Bundle: From $12.99 A Month
Rewatch all of Seasons 1 and 2 of Paradise with either Disney+ or Hulu (or both!) for as low as $12.99 month. Plus, you'll get shows like Daredevil: Born Again, Washington Black (also starring Sterling K. Brown), and so much more. It's definitely one of the best streaming deals going.

There are still a few shows that have yet to be renewed or canceled by ABC, aside from Will Trent. The Rookie, which also premiered its latest season in January, is waiting for its Season 9 fate. It shifted from Tuesdays to Mondays earlier this year to make room for freshman drama R.J. Decker, which is also awaiting a renewal or cancellation, along with the reboot of Scrubs. Tim Allen’s Shifting Gears has also yet to score a Season 3 renewal following its Season 2 finale in February.

With renewal/cancellation season, you never know when to expect announcements to be made, and there doesn’t seem to be any pattern that ABC is following with these announcements. Abbott was renewed by itself, as well as Grey’s Anatomy, while the 9-1-1s and High Potential were revealed on the same day. So, hopefully, news about Will Trent will come sooner rather than later. Fans will just have to wait and see, and watch Will Trent on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, streaming the next day with a Hulu subscription.
