The Mandalorian Cast Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff For Season 2 In A Familiar Role

Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica

The Mandalorian Season 2 is shaping up to be something extraordinary, as it appears Mando and The Child (Baby Yoda) are going to cross paths with the likes of Ahsoka Tano and even Boba Fett. Now, a new report claims that Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff is joining the cast, and she’ll be playing a role that should be very familiar to Star Wars fans.

Katee Sackhoff will be joining The Mandalorian as Mandalore leader and former Death Watch lieutenant Bo-Katan Kryze, according to Slash Flim. This will mark the first live action appearance of the character in a Star Wars project.

According to the trade, both Lucasfilm and Sackhoff’s reps have declined to comment on the casting, however they’ve heard from multiple sources that she has joined the show. She’s also said to have worked on the Disney+ series in February, before Hollywood productions began shutting down.

The character of Bo-Katan Kryze debuted in the fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, in which she was established as the second in command of Pre Vizsla’s terrorist Death Watch and the sister of Mandalore’s leader, Duchess Satine. She’s also notable for being one of the few people to wield the Darksaber, which was glimpsed briefly in The Mandalorian’s Season 1 finale.

Bo-Katan would eventually forsake Death Watch and come into conflict with Darth Maul, who would claim both her Darksaber and the throne of Mandalore. This would lead her to recruit the aid of Ahsoka Tano and the Jedi Order in Clone Wars’ final arc – “The Siege of Mandalore.”

In addition, Bo-Katan would also resurface in Star Wars Rebels, which picks up fourteen years after the events of the Clone Wars finale. By this point, Kryze and her Nite Owls had resolved to fight against the Galactic Empire.

Having Bo-Katan Kryze reappear in The Mandalorian makes a lot of sense for a few reasons. Because she’s a Mandalore native with connections, it would make sense that Mando (Din Djarin) would end up on her radar, or vice versa. And given her connections to Ahsoka Tano, it seems natural that Bo-Katan wouldn’t be too far behind. Finally, it’s safe to assume that she knows that Moff Gideon has the Darksaber, and she may be seeking to regain control of it. And she’s also probably not too happy about his part in the Great Purge.

Bo-Batan Kryze has become a key part of Star Wars and should make a strong addition to The Mandalorian. And Katee Sackhoff, having played no-nonsense characters and dabbled in science fiction, is a strong choice for the role. It’ll be exciting to see how her Bo-Katan plays into the new season of The Mandalorian when it returns to the small screen. The first season of the show is now available to stream on Disney+.
