The Falcon And The Winter Soldier's Superhero U.S. Agent Explained In New Marvel Video
Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is going to continue the adventures of the Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes and bring back other fan-favorite characters like Sharon Carter. However, the limited series is also set to introduce a new face to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that’s John Walker aka the U.S. Agent. Most mainstream audiences may not be familiar with the star-spangled hero, so Marvel Comics is making an effort to fill fans in before his live-action debut.
Marvel Comics is known for releasing videos highlighting its various characters and, now, the company has released a clip that explains the history of the U.S. Agent. The short (but informative) video that begins with John Walker’s rise as the Super-Patriot and his eventual transformation into the U.S. Agent. You can check out the video for yourself down below:
One of the most fascinating elements of the U.S. Agent’s characterization, however, is his complicated relationship with Steve Rogers/Captain America. As you can see in the video, he and Rogers weren’t always on the best of terms, and they’re rivalry became even more personal when Walker took up the shield himself in Rogers’ absence. Still, the two were ultimately able to find common ground.
In regard to the MCU, things will certainly be different for John Walker, as Marvel Studios has never adapted every exact element from the comics. And of course, with Steve Rogers’ retirement at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the two will more than likely won't cross paths on screen.
With this, it’s incredibly likely that any animosity that spills over from the comics could be between Walker and Rogers’ successor, Sam Wilson. Plot details for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are currently being kept under wrap but, based on what we’ve seen, it would appear that the government wants Walker to be the “new Captain America.” There’s no telling how Sam will feel about this when Walker first comes into the picture, but you can be sure the situation won’t exactly go down smoothly.
We also have to consider what might become of John Walker after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s clear that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is being prepped to become the MCU’s official Captain America, so will Walker willingly hand back the shield and become a hero in his own right? Or could something crazy happen and Walker becomes more of a villain? Only time will tell.
But in the meantime, this newly released video definitely gives the public a better idea of what to expect from John Walker when he strolls onto the scene. And hopefully, after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s delay, we won’t have to wait too long before we can finally see him in action.
