9-1-1: Lone Star's Lisa Edelstein Had The Best Reaction To Her Character's Bombshell Reveal

9-1-1 lone star fox lisa edelstein gwyneth

Spoilers ahead for the latest episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star on Fox.

Lisa Edelstein debuted on 9-1-1: Lone Star for a West Wing reunion that was decades in the making, and her character is already making waves only four episodes into Season 2. Edelstein's Gwyneth dropped a bombshell on Rob Lowe's Owen, her ex-husband and current love interest/live-in friend with benefits, and the unexpected twist brought out the best reaction from Edelstein. Gwyneth is pregnant, to the surprise of Gwyneth herself, Owen, and probably a lot of viewers.

Gwyneth dropped the pregnancy bombshell after she spent the episode trying to get Owen to clarify how he sees their relationship, leading him to misinterpret the situation and propose to her again. She of course refused and then shared that Owen is currently the father-to-be of a baby who would be several decades younger than their firstborn. Lisa Edelstein spoke to ET about the twist, and her reaction was the best:

I laughed and laughed and laughed. Then I researched, ‘How old was the oldest woman to get pregnant without medical assistance?’ The answer is 57. So… okay.

Lisa Edelstein, who is 54-years-old, found the humor in the kind of twist that is usually reserved for younger couples on TV shows. According to her research after she finished laughing, Gwyneth's pregnancy at her age on the show isn't unprecedented in real life. While 9-1-1: Lone Star may require some suspension of disbelief for some of its twists (see: the scorpions swarming a food truck to escape a volcano in Texas), Owen and Gwyn making a baby in middle age happens in the real world!

That said, as 9-1-1 actually made the point just an hour before this episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star aired on Fox, there are higher risks for pregnancies in women past a certain age, which raises the question of whether pregnancy is a storyline that Lone Star intends to pursue in the long run. If not, the plot may depend on whether they make a decision or something else happens. No matter what happens next, Gwyneth and Owen's relationship has been thrown for a loop.

Lisa Edelstein went on to address how Gwyneth and Owen's relationship will change in light of the pregnancy, saying:

It certainly ups the stakes of making things work. Although, I think they are still on the fence about whether the pregnancy is realistic at her age. There are still hurdles ahead.

The actress would only say that "You’ll find out soon enough" when asked about the challenges she foresees Gwyneth facing in the coming weeks, so fans will have to tune in to 9-1-1: Lone Star to see how exactly the show is approaching this unexpected plot twist. Whatever she and Owen decide to do about the pregnancy, I just hope the show lets T.K. find out the truth sooner rather than later and shows his reaction. The poor guy has already dealt with so much since getting shot!

The good news is that the latest episode that dropped the baby bombshell also seemingly guaranteed that one character isn't going away despite her heartbreak. It might have been hard to lose another person so soon after Lone Star killed off Tim in early Season 2 and lost Liv Tyler's Michelle Blake off-screen. Find out what happens next with new episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star at 9 p.m. ET on Fox, following episodes of 9-1-1 Season 4. The two shows pulled off their first big crossover in 2021, complete with some heartfelt bonding between characters, some epic action, and an exchange between Buck and T.K. that got the 9-1-1 fandom talking.
