The narrative surrounding former actress Meghan Markle and the British Royal family is a merry-go-round of mistrust. The British press made light work of stoking those flames with a constant barrage of rumors about their tenuous relationship. The most recent accusations label Markle as a bully of her former royal staff, but her Suits co-star Patrick J. Adams is coming to her defense against these “obscene” remarks.

Patrick J Adams worked with Meghan Markle on the hit show Suits from 2011 to 2018. In his eight-part tweetstorm on Friday, Adams refutes the claims that his friend is a bully. He wrote,

It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of “bullying” against a woman who herself was basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health. IMO, this newest chapter and it’s timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of a institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency. Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league.

The intense reaction from Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross on Suits, comes after The Times published an article that claims to have three of Meghan Markle's former staff at Kensington Palace coming forward with accusations that the actress made their life “unbearable.” In no time, Buckingham Palace announced that there would be an internal investigation of the claims. If that doesn't spell bad blood, I don't know what does.

Meghan Markle and the British Royal family’s backstory is both long and dramatic, to be sure. Markle has been hounded for years by the British tabloids concerning her father and, after her marriage to Prince Harry, constantly faced accusations that she doesn't get along with the other royals. Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world when they opted to step away from their royal duties last year and move to America.

The serious accusations and Twitter reactions have come about days before the highly anticipated Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Many consider the timing to be no mere coincidence because the trailer for the interview promises to be a tell-all about the royal family. In it, Markle said now is the right time to talk about the situation because the pair have more "life experience" and "have the ability to make our own choices."

If the Netflix series The Crown is any indication, royal drama likely will not die with one Oprah interview. Tune into CBS on Sunday at 8pm ET to hear Meghan Markle’s side of the story.
