Major spoilers for the latest episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier -- “Truth” -- lie ahead.
This week’s installment of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier provided viewers with “the calm before the storm” in what’s been an intense season. The penultimate episode covered a lot of ground, including the aftermath of John Walker’s violent actions in the fourth episode. As expected, Walker’s killing of a Flag-Smasher caught many people’s attention, including that of a surprising new Marvel Cinematic Universe character, played by a fan-favorite star. Now, Walker himself Wyatt Russell has discussed his feelings about the character and what they could mean for the future.
The newest episode saw John Walker officially stripped of his position as Captain America. As he sulked following the tense hearing, he and wife Olivia were approached by a mysterious woman, who comic fans know as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. And what was even more surprising is that the character was played by none other than Julia Louis-Dreyfus. During their brief chat, de Fontaine expresses her interest in working with Walker at some point in the future.
Wyatt Russell revealed to Esquire that he was initially unaware of the actress’ involvement with the show. He also shared his thoughts about their two characters potentially working together in the future:
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has appeared in a number of places since making her Marvel Comics debut back in 1967. Over the years, she’s been a number of things, but she’s almost always operated in the shadows as a spy. As of right now, it’s not completely clear as to what role she’ll play in the MCU, but some (like myself) are already speculating that she could have something to do with the Thunderbolts or even the Dark Avengers. Despite the uncertainty, we have learned that the character was initially going to debut in Black Widow, though her role in that film remains to be seen as well.
Whatever route the character takes, it would be nice to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Wyatt Russell working together. The two are talented actors and, given their character’s personalities, they could create quite an intriguing dynamic.
