Fan-favorite Kate Chastain might have put her own chief stew and Below Deck days behind her, after her official exit in 2020. But that doesn’t mean the notorious shade-thrower at sea doesn’t have some thoughts on the totally bonkers second season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht airing now. In fact, the former chief stew had some extra spicy descriptions of the hook-ups and cast members onboard this season.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 is most definitely making a bigger splash than the first. The cast and crew were quarantined together on the boat for most of the charters, due to COVID-19 safety regulations last year. Perhaps because of that or in spite of that, the crew seemed to be hooking up left and right. These were probably the messiest situations any Bravo fan has ever seen on the show, and Kate Chastain seems to agree. She told US Weekly:

It’s like they’re square dancing on that sail yacht. They’re just, you know, Dosey Doeing and switching partners every episode. I mean, it’s [a] great season.

Kate Chastain’s shady description of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 is spot on. First, it was Gary King and Sydney Zaruba in a first night hook-up in the master cabin. Then it was King and Alli Dore, with Zaruba obviously upset on the sidelines. In the teaser for next week’s episode though, it looks like King is considering getting it back on with Zaruba as some sort of retaliation against Dore for finding out about the initial hook-up and ending their own fling as a result.

It’s what Bravo fans love to see: a beautiful, magnificent mess -- one that I think most view as Gary King’s doing. Kate Chastain has seen a few unfortunate hook-ups (some of which were her own) during her six-season run on Below Deck. About King’s situation, Chastain said:

I think he needs to get his head out of his ass, or maybe he needs to get his head out of Alli [Dore]’s ass, I don’t know.

Another big piece of the square dancing on this season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is Dani Soares. She’s been hooking up with co-star Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux for the majority of the season, until the last episode, in which she threatened to quit and go home after finding out that JL might have chlamydia.

In case you were worried, no it wasn’t chlamydia, just a bit of chafing. But now fans are on pins and needles after Dani Soares’ announced on Instagram that she's pregnant. She isn’t revealing who the father is yet – but many can’t help but wonder if it is the chlamydia-turned-chafe hook-up that Soares met aboard the Parsifal II. Kate Chastain has some thoughts on that as well:

I don’t know that it would be a smart baby [if] he’s the daddy. Because who says that? I know for a fact I have never heard a human say those words out loud. No one says that. What you do is — I would imagine — let’s just say, for any health issue below your waistline, you know, maybe you just tell the doctor. Just don’t talk about what happens in your pants. I’m no HR expert, but that would be my advice.

Strangely, Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux’s name wasn’t brought up during Dani Soares’ interview with US Weekly earlier this month. Perhaps Soares found out about being pregnant while filming Below Deck Sailing Yacht and the news is embargoed per the crew’s contract. Who knows, but it adds an underlying tension to the final two episodes of the season. I know Kate Chastain and I will be watching.
