The first ever winner of ‘America’s Got Talent’ was revealed on Thursday night. 11-year-old Bianca Ryan took the grand prize of one million dollars for her singing abilities. The other finalists were awarded cars and lots of applause for their efforts.

Ms. Ryan was speechless and teary eyed when Regis announced her as the winner. The contest showcased more than just singers though. Among the finalists were The Millers, a brother duo who sang and played the harmonica as well as a very entertaining juggling act, a tapping team, a girl who could yodel and a family of dancers. ‘America’s Got Talent’ had an extremely wide variety of talents, which is what set the show apart form shows like ‘American Idol’ and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.

While Ryan’s talent at singing was extraordinary, I was a bit disappointed that the first winner was a singer. Granted she was a young girl and could definitely sing, but it would’ve been nice to see someone (or group) with a unique talent take the prize in the first season. America voted to determine the winner so apparently; the majority prefers cute pageant-ish girls to family acts and magic shows.

It was reported that Ryan hopes to pursue an acting career and seeks the job coveted by child performers all over the country; a role on a Disney Channel show.
