Could Jericho Come Back For Season 3 Through Netflix?

Come next year, Netflix will serve as the home of the return of Arrested Development, a series many have been hoping to see make a comeback since it ended in 2006. Seven years is kind of a big gap between seasons, which actually makes this latest bit of news seem less unusual by comparison. All the same, those who loved Jericho and were disappointed that CBS' apocalyptic drama only lasted two seasons probably wouldn't complain about the years-long break between seasons if the series were to return, right? It might be happening.

This seems like a very big "might" at the moment, but one well worth reporting. TV Guide shared word that Netflix has approached CBS about bringing Jericho back. CBS TV Studios is reportedly considering it. As the site notes, talks are still in the preliminary phases and there are a number of factors that would come into play before a deal could be worked out. Obviously, both Netflix and CBS would have to see this as a financially viable endeavor. And then there's the matter of getting the stars and writers on board. So realistically, this could be the start of another "is this ever going to happen?" situation... (See also: The Dark Tower Series adaptation, and movies for Veronica Mars, 24, Friday Night Lights, etc). But who knows what could happen, especially if fans support the idea. (Anybody got a peanut?)

In case your memory's rusty, Jericho premiered in 2006 and took place in a small rural town trying to get by after a huge nuclear attack. Among the cast were Skeet Ulrich, Lennie James, Ashley Scott, Kenneth Mitchell and Michael Gaston. The series was originally cancelled after Season 1, then un-cancelled after fans rallied to support the show (sending nuts to CBS to show their support for the series). CBS brought it back for a second season, and the series ended in 2008.

I'll admit, I still haven't seen the second season of the series, but this has me motivated to bump Jericho up (opens in new tab) on my Instant Watch queue. Netflix's interest in reviving another series has me wondering if they've put feelers out for any other shows that they might want to revive. In the meantime, we'll have to keep an eye out on any updates (if there are any) on Jericho's possible return.
