Marlene Dietrich spent a good chunk of last century solidifying a name for herself in show business. Word is, Gwyneth Paltrow may be playing her in an upcoming TV movie.

Collider posted the rumor, stating that Paltrow may be portraying German actress and singer Marlene Dietrich in a TV film that’s being produced by Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp TV. The film was initiated by BBC and HBO and is based on Dietrich’s biography. It’s is being adapted by Andrew Davies and is set to cover Dietrich’s rise to fame, working on stage and in film.

To give you an idea of who Dietrich is, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the name, the American Film Institute has her listed within the top ten greatest female stars of all time, wedged between Judy Garland and Joan Crawford. I’ll admit that I’m not all that educated on Ms. Dietrich’s greatness in film or on stage, however watching these videos (below), it’s easy to see why she was so beloved. We know Paltrow can act and sing but it should be interesting to see if she can capture Dietrich’s charisma and screen presence, should this rumor be true and she’s signed on for the role.
