Hilton Interview Is Bigger Draw Than Republican Debate

Oh what a sad, sad society we live in. On Wednesday night, Paris Hilton gave her first post-incarceration interview to Larry King. The sit down with the heiress was expected to draw massive ratings; however, the total numbers ended up exceeding even the most optimistic of predictions, while further tarnishing the rapidly declining reputation of our doomed generation.

According to Zap2It.com, the hour long chit chat drew in almost 3.2 million viewers. That’s almost three times more than the bespeckled late night host normally musters. In possibly the most depressing commentary on our society I have ever heard, seen, or even dreamed of, the telecast even bested the ratings of the Republican presidential primary that aired several weeks ago. Way to go, America.

It’s a proud day for Democracy. Somehow we’ve gotten to the point where the sophomoric and slutty actions of an ignorant social deviant seem more pressing than the future of the free world. Bravo. As James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and Nathan Hale roll over in their respective graves, our country wallows in an unpopular war and slowly ascends the world’s hit list; yet, Americans would still rather banter about a misguided girl than important policy issues. There comes a point when rage and disappointment begin bleeding into a distilled pool of indifference, and for the first time in my life, I’m thinking about jumping in the deep end and doggy paddling for dear life.
