MTV Adds Dumb Girls Pilot To Its Charming Programming

MTV is to teens what sugar is to kids. It is addicting programming and it is easy to get through. Being mentally stimulated is not high on the list of those watching it—I should know, I don’t watch regularly, but MTV is great fodder for zoning out at the gym. It is pointless to bash MTV for continually hitting new lows. People will watch what they want to watch and MTV will make money for it. However, if you see me somewhere openly crossing my fingers and muttering about MTV's newest pilot, you'll soon know why.

MTV has greenlit a new pilot called Dumb Girls, named in an ill-marketed attempt to remind audiences of Mean Girls, or so I’m guessing. In case you were wondering, Dumb Girls is not about dumb women per se. Instead, Dumb Girls is going to be about smart gals who don’t understand their love lives. Which I think means the characters will get good grades in school, but not get what is going on in their own lives. And, the name, The Name! I guess it’s kind of ballsy to go in to a pilot hoping for an audience base of girls with low self-esteem, but the network could have been a bit more tactful for the rest of us.

According to Deadline, Dumb Girls will be produced by Lauren Iungerich. Iungerich is the mastermind behind MTV’s new comedy series, Awkward., which follows a 15 year-old chick who has an accident which students at her school misconstrue for a suicide attempt. Following this, she becomes extremely popular, but doesn't want the popularity. This Iungerich lady clearly has more youthful issues than Lady Gaga, but at least she found the right network.
