Rather Nudged Out Of CBS

Rather says he is still contracted to work as a full-time correspondent for ’60 Minutes’, according to TV.com. The anchor has been with the network for 44 years, and was more or less the golden boy of CBS news until the Bush National Guard story of 2004. The story hinged on documents that showed George W. Bush received special treatment during his stint in the Texas National Guard. The documents later turned out to be false, and many believe that Rather has not recovered his face from the incident (2004 was a real bad year for the network).

CBS claims that with Katie Couric taking over as anchor for ‘CBS Evening News’ along with new correspondents for ’60 Minutes’ means there is just no room for Rather and his unique style of reporting. I don’t think CBS is going to be very popular with many people because of this; it looks like they are kowtowing to lingering embarrassment, and if everyone had to pay for something they did as result of George W. Bush, we all would be out of a job.
