There are lots and lots of reboots, revivals and remakes in the works right now. While there are so many that it’s becoming impossible to keep track of all of them, it seems as if the remake machine isn’t slowing down one bit. For example, this week former child actress Melissa Joan Hart revealed that she is currently in talks to bring back the ABC TGIF hit Sabrina, The Teenage Witch. The news comes just a few weeks after a remake of Melissa Joan Hart’s other big series Clarissa Explains It All was also rumored to be in the works.
Neither Sabrina, The Teenage Witch or Clarissa Explains It All has been officially confirmed to be moving forward, yet, but Melissa Joan Hart recently appeared on FabLife to give fans the lowdown on exactly what is going on. The actress told the outlet that she has definitely been taking meetings and looking forward to hopefully having at least one of these projects come together. But it isn’t all that simple. Here’s why:
Back in the day, Clarissa Explains It All aired on Nickelodeon while Sabrina, The Teenage Witch aired on ABC and the WB. If either remake would move forward, the various parties who own the series would have to agree to a remake. Then a concept would need to come together for one or both of the new projects. Following that, a home would need to be found for the shows. If all of those things come together, and only then, would we actually see Melissa Joan Hart back on the small screen in a familiar role.
Honestly, both shows would be easy enough to revive. While Melissa Joan Hart is no longer a young teen, a Sabrina, The Teenage Witch Reboot could simply go by the name Sabrina and place her in the same sort of auntie role that Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick occupied in the original series. Or, they could always go with that edgier restyling of the character that was rumored a few years ago. In the same way, a Clarissa Explains It All reboot could feature Melissa Joan Hart as the mom of a new teen who also has a penchant for explaining it all. Other ideas are possible, but the point is, it wouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish.
We’ll let you know if either of these ideas end up moving forward. Plus, we’ll let you know what network the shows land at. In the meantime, you can check out all of the other reboots that are currently in the works here.
