TV Recap: My Boys - Private Eyes

It must be hard to tell your friends that you’re dating another person in your tight group which is why Bobby and PJ are full on making out in the streets but they’re stealthy so no one knows what’s going on. That won’t last long with PJ making up excuses involving the gym. Really, PJ? The gym? Plus, Brendan’s job has finally come to pass. Yay.

Don’t think it’s mean that PJ and Bobby are trying to hide their relationship. They just know how much the guys would tease them if they ever find out and they want to give whatever’s happening between them time to grow. They text each other fake work messages and then meet in the street and they never go to PJ’s because Brendan is still living with her. Once he starts working his new job and has to wake up super early, though, he’s awake to notice things like PJ sneaking in at 6 am wearing what she had on the day before. Not so stealth there. There’s only one logical answer for what’s been going on with PJ and Brendan shares with everyone that she has a new guy.

Obviously, they need to know who this guy is so they go to the one person who would know, Stephanie. She doesn’t know. Why would PJ tell her when she expressly forbade PJ from telling Bobby how she felt in the first place? Exactly. They come up with a plan to find out who it is which involves a stake-out and Mike acting like a tool cop. Naturally, no one thinks the new guy is Bobby so he’s able to tell PJ that the guys are on to her when they have their “relationship” talk. Before anyone else can know what’s happening between them, they need to know.

Duh. They’re dating. They’re not hooking up or just hanging out, they like each other… a lot… and they’re dating. Finally. PJ can tell someone and nope, it’s not going to be Mike. She and Stephanie go out to dinner (the guys are in Andy’s van watching with binoculars) and she drops the news that it’s Bobby. Instead of being angry or disappointed though, Stephanie is relieved that it’s some one so good. Huh. Maybe everyone wouldn’t freak out as much as they think.

While PJ is inside being honest, Bobby is camped out in the van watching his girlfriend being watched by their friends. Brendan gets called off to work and Andy isn’t really paying attention, he’s just happy to be out of the house. Kenny’s somewhat on task, until he and Andy start watching the Disney rip-off DVD’s whose titles include A Handful of Dalmatians. It’s apparently not a classic. Mike, though, is full on in cop mode. He’s even wearing sunglasses. I mean, he did keep his mustache for opportunities just like this one. He starts to get impatient because he can’t read lips and calls Stephanie on her walkie-talkie. Why you would keep a walkie-talkie with you and turned on when you’re undercover is beyond me but that’s exactly how PJ learns just how far the guys will go.

With their cover blown, the boys need a new plan. Brendan’s at work so Bobby becomes the inside man and is waiting for PJ when she gets home from dinner. Obviously, he stays up there for a while and Mike starts to get worried that the new boyfriend found him up there and started to beat him. I mean, that would be your first though, too, no? He goes racing upstairs and finds them sitting next to each other. He’s followed shortly by Kenny who was walking by the building and thought he smelled gas. Oh yeah, these guys are totally in the wrong profession. CIA, here they come. Brendan’s off work and he and Andy walk in right behind Kenny. Now’s the time.

PJ and Bobby stand up and start talking, almost to each other, about dating. Then, finally, after some in-talking about marriage and what not, PJ blurts out that she and Bobby are dating. Silence. Then the flurry of questions come out: When did it start? Are they sleeping together? Are PJ’s feet soft? That last one is courtesy of Kenny. But then there’s nothing. Andy grabs some beer and sets up the poker table and it’s like nothing happened. Huh. Maybe the guys can be mature if they know something’s for real? Who knew?

See, that’s why I love these guys. Just when you think you know what you want to happen, something else happens that’s better. That’s it. I’m emailing TBS about keeping this show on all year long.
