ToeJam And Earl Headed To PSN And XBLA In November
It looks like long-ago Sega mascots ToeJam and Earl will be making a triumphant return to home consoles, though not in the fabled sequel diehard fans have been holding out for over the past couple of decades. Instead, the bizarre alien duo’s two previous outings, ToeJam & Earl and ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron will be making their way to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 respectively.
This news comes from Joystiq, who got word about the impending digital releases straight from Sega earlier this morning.
Back in the 90s, the video game landscape was awash in mascot characters. From bats and bandicoots to bears and whatever the hell ToeJam & Earl are, platformers were king and their goofy heroes were a big part of that success. Sort of a blend between Mario, a Saturday morning cartoon and hip-hop, this oddball duo would cruise the galaxy in their magic elevator, running, jumping and swimming across alien landscapes with the best of ‘em.
For those who missed out on all of that excitement the first time around—due to a lack of interest or not being born yet—Sega’s dynamic duo is being given a second lease on life as digital releases for both Sony and Microsoft’s home consoles. ToeJam & Earl and Panic on Funkotron will be available on PSN starting Nov. 6, with both games being made available individually for $4.99 a pop. The games will release the following day on XBLA as Sega Vintage Collection: ToeJam & Earl for 800 MSP ($10).
