Weinsteins Open TWC Games For Licensed-Based Game Titles

The Weinstein Company announced today that they’re opening TWC Games, a video game label that will publish titles across multiple platforms spanning the varied and rich library of licensed property from the Weinstein Company. In other words, you could be seeing SCREAM: The Game for the iPad or Hellraiser, Hoodwinked or Inglorious Basterds for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Scary thoughts, I know, but that’s now a possibility.

The Weinstein’s will be working closely with Beefy Media to establish and help produce relationships within the gaming realm to help expand TWC into the interactive entertainment industry. Beefy Media President, Adam Boyes commented in the press release, saying…

"The Weinstein Company is an incredible entertainment company, and I share their vision for creating very high quality content for the marketplace," … "We plan to combine our extensive video game developer relationships with the impressive catalogue of properties to create and produce content made by gamers for gamers."

Some companies have been really making good on licensed property, especially Warner Bros. Interactive who has tapped into the likes of their DC relationship to produce really high quality titles including Batman: Arkham Asylum and the upcoming Batman: Arkham City.

With the expenses required to produce high quality games that can be marketed well and appeal to the gaming demographic will be an interesting challenge for the Weinsteins, especially considering that many of their more popular movies and properties aren’t heavily associated with gaming culture, such as The Road or The King’s Speech.

Nevertheless, Bob Weinstein shared a few comments in the press release as well, saying…

"The video game marketplace is changing at such a rapid rate. With all of the digital platforms, there are so many opportunities to broaden our audience with compelling, high quality, cost-efficient, video game entertainment."

If we can get some Rambo, Death Proof type games out of this ordeal then I’m all for it. You can learn more about TWC Games by visiting the Official Website.
