Leighton Meester has perfected the charming backstabber in her role on Gossip Girl, and for her first movie role, she doesn't seem to be trying to get away from that type. She's taken the villain role in The Roommate, a Sony Screen Gems thriller about a freshman college students whose roommate Rebecca (Meester) becomes unnaturally obsessed with her.
THR says the main role hasn't been cast yet, but it's hard to imagine many actresses being tough enough to go up against a scheming Meester. Maybe they'll just cast her Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively and make the whole thing a spinoff? Either way, I like that Meester isn't just jumping straight into a generic ingenue role, and will get a chance to actually do some acting for her big post-Gossip Girl film debut.
