Arnold Schwarzenegger Drops More Plot Details For Conan The Conqueror

Arnold Schwarzenegger became one of the great movie action heroes in the 80’s and 90’s, but it all began in 1982 with his role in Conan the Barbarian. The movie saw a less than stellar sequel years later, and an even more embarrassing attempt at a reboot a couple of years ago, but the love for Arnold’s Conan has never faltered with fans. Now the man himself has spoken a little bit more about the plans for the long awaited follow up that is apparently still coming.

As part of a pair of charity events that Arnold is doing in the UK this week, Arnold Schwarzenegger talked a little bit about his upcoming film projects. While we’ve known for some time that a Conan movie was on the actor’s bucket list, according to The Arnold Fans.com the film is much closer to being a reality than we thought.

Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years - decades… and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done. Yes, as a matter of fact, it (the movie) has been written and we are now looking for directors so this is a serious drive (now for Conan).

To start, we have a potential new title. Previously, the new movie was being called The Legend of Conan and now we have a new name: Conan the Conqueror. We’ve always known there was a story to be told about Conan as king, as even the first film teased us with this idea. Of course, back in the day movie sequels and franchises were not automatic things that studios went looking for. Now we have a bit more information about exactly what will be happening with our king. The idea of Conan being overthrown seems like an interesting direction to go. We always figured he’d be a great king, so why are the people looking to overthrow him? Who exactly are "they?"

Arnold Schwarzenegger says the script is already written and they’re talking to directors, which puts the movie much further along than we have heard previously. We’d heard before that the script was close to done, but it was also said the movie would be going into production last spring; since that didn’t happen we assumed there were other things going on. If they’re talking to directors now, it looks like whatever issues they had may have been worked out. It does look like the script has seen some rewrites as the story looks to be a little different than the last one we heard.

Are you excited to see 69-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger take the mantle of Conan once again, or is it time to let the barbarian rest?
