Batman v Superman Adding Scoot McNairy In A Mystery Role

Earlier this year, Scoot McNairy found himself with a small role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he took a part acting opposite Ben Kingsley in the Marvel One Shot short film All Hail The King. Watching the film and recognizing McNairy's talent, I found myself honestly wondering why an actor of his caliber wouldn't possibly want to wait things out and possibly land a bigger role in the comic book movie universe somewhere further down the line. Well, it turns out that doesn't really matter, because he's now hooked up with the folks over at DC Comics and Warner Bros.

Deadline has picked up a scoop from one of their unnamed sources saying that McNairy has become the latest actor rumored for a role in Zack Snyder's upcoming 2016 blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Unlike previous rumors about the project, which have typically come with a character name paired with the actor's, this new trade report has no information regarding the possible role and adds that nobody at the studio would confirm the casting. Obviously it's kind of hard to tell who he might be playing, given that the DC Universe is filled with thousands upon thousands of characters big and small that the actor could play.

While McNairy would be a very late addition to this production if this rumor is true, he would be joining what is turning out to be a really spectacular cast. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will be playing the titular roles in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but they are surrounded by a strong supporting team that includes Man of Steel's Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne and Diane Lane in addition to Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, and Holly Hunter in a mystery role. Reports have also suggested that the film could feature appearances by Aquaman (possibly played by Game of Thrones' Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (brought to life by newcomer Ray Fisher).

If he's joining the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cast this late in the game, Scoot McNairy probably doesn't have a gigantic role in the movie, but that doesn't mean his part won't be significant. The film is currently in production and will be for the next couple of months, aiming at a May 3, 2016 release date - the same day as Captain America 3. The script for the movie was penned by Chris Terrio, based on a story and early drafts written by Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer.
