Captain America Sequel Co-Director Spills A Few Details About Tone image
Joe and Anthony Russo have been handed the enormous duty of directing the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, despite the fact that the brother directing duo has only made three previous features, two both of them comedies. Oh, and they're also the executive producers behind a new fall TV show, Animal Practice, which will premiere soon on NBC. But there's no rest for the weary, and with the Russo brothers on hand at the Television Critics Association Press Tour this week, The Huffington Post took the chance to ask Anthony Russo about his plans for Cap. First up, here's how their work as the producers of Community might help them make a Marvel movie:

Well, I think if you look at some of the big genre episodes, the paintball episodes, etc. -- there's a cinematic sensibility being explored there that is in the language of [various kinds of] films.

And here's what appealed to them about the Winter Soldier series of comics, which will be the basis for the film, or at least we're all assuming it will be based on the title:

Well, we like the [story]. I can't talk too much about specifics, that's the way Marvel handles things. I can say in general that there's sort of a darker, edgier sensibility at work there that we found appealing, and that is going find its way into Captain [America] in the modern day.

There's a lot more conversation from there, but with the Russos firmly brought into the Marvel camp of "don't tell anyone anything, ever," they obviously can't reveal a whole lot. But Anthony Russo does tell a story about how they never intended to be solely comedy directors, and talks a little more about Cap's role as a fish out of water in this film. So head over there to learn more, and keep an eye out for Captain America: The Winter Soldier when it comes to theaters April 4, 2014.
