Fresnadillo Gets X-Ray Vision

The Day the Earth Stood Still proved that remaking an old sci-fi classic isn't worth it, even when you've got the technology to make it look good. That was the whole point, guys! The bad special effects were the best part! But even though 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo may know his way around genre movies better than Earth Stood Still remaker Scott Derrickson, I've still got my doubts about his plans to remake a Roger Corman classic.

Corman is not only the maniacal genius who made the original Little Shop of Horrors, but he brought us over 50 cheesy horror movies just like it, with titles like Bucket of Blood and Creature From the Haunted Sea. The movie that Fresnadillo wants to remake, according to Variety, is X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes. The title is pretty self-explanatory, I think.

The simplest ideas can often make the best horror movies, and Corman's films, as silly as they could be, were usually pretty brilliant in their concise storytelling. Fresnadillo could have something really great to work with here, and provided he doesn't muck it up with useless special effects and a lame version of an iconic robot (hello, Gort!), he may do Corman's legacy proud. Given that Corman is still alive and plenty opinionated, Fresnadillo is probably as terrified as anyone about screwing this one up.
