So far this week we’ve heard about Michael Moore’s next documentary dealing with homophobia, Donahue tackling the Iraq war, another one on animal rights, so let’s finish out the week with the homeless. Screen Media films has picked up the rights to Skid Row a documentary about the homeless situation by Pras Michel of The Fugees.
The documentary follows Pras with hidden cameras for nine days as he lives the life of a homeless person in Los Angeles. Teryn Fogel produced along with Pras, and direction came from Niva Dorell, Marshall Tyler, and Ross Clark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Screen Media is planning a platform release for Skid Row starting in L.A., New York, and Washington D.C. beginning on August 24th.
I can only imagine how devastating a movie like this can be if executed properly. Problems like homelessness are easy to discuss from a distance, but it’s only when people are actually dropped in the lion’s den that they finally reach an understanding of the situation. Kudos to Pras and the other filmmakers for having the guts to make that happen.

Hello Pras My name is Disheka Kenney I am 24 years of age and the reason why I am stepping up and speaking on the Skid row manner is because I also lived Downtown LA with my mother. My mom was living down there because she did not have no where to live and really did not have no money, it's so hard to make it in Los Angeles, Ca it seems to me that no one really understand that, my mom is back in prison for being on the street of Downtown ...... I just want to help!!!!!!!!!! Last night I saw your documentary and that had my eyes glue to the t.v. I am so happy you brought this out this is the best thing that I ever saw on t.v. and for me to see some people actually doing drugs it may me cry so much because I thought about my mother and what she been through with drugs. My has seven children and because of drugs she has not raise any of them and for me to be the oldest its kinda of hard even though I am trying to make out here in Los Angeles, Ca. I JUST WANT TO HELP!!!!! I may not have a whole lot of money but I do have God in my corner........ IT IS THE DRUG THAT HAVE A HOLD ON THOSE PEOPLE. PLEASE RESPOND BACK TO ME...... THANK YOU!!!
