Pras Michel Hits Skid Row

So far this week we’ve heard about Michael Moore’s next documentary dealing with homophobia, Donahue tackling the Iraq war, another one on animal rights, so let’s finish out the week with the homeless. Screen Media films has picked up the rights to Skid Row a documentary about the homeless situation by Pras Michel of The Fugees.

The documentary follows Pras with hidden cameras for nine days as he lives the life of a homeless person in Los Angeles. Teryn Fogel produced along with Pras, and direction came from Niva Dorell, Marshall Tyler, and Ross Clark. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Screen Media is planning a platform release for Skid Row starting in L.A., New York, and Washington D.C. beginning on August 24th.

I can only imagine how devastating a movie like this can be if executed properly. Problems like homelessness are easy to discuss from a distance, but it’s only when people are actually dropped in the lion’s den that they finally reach an understanding of the situation. Kudos to Pras and the other filmmakers for having the guts to make that happen.
