Princess Bride T-Shirt Terrifies Airline Passengers

Everyone knows not to get involved in land wars in Asia and not to go up against a Sicilian with death on the line, but apparently, there’s another hard and fast rule we should all take to heart. Never wear a t-shirt emblazoned with Inigo Montoya’s beloved quote onto a plane because if you do, you will scare the holy Fire Swamp out of complete failures who have never seen The Princess Bride.

The lesson in question was learned firsthand by traveler and Princess Bride superfan Wynand Mullins over the weekend when he boarded a flight to New Zealand. Go ahead and take a look at his shirt, courtesy of Stuff

Just prior to takeoff, Mullins was approached by one of the flight attendants who told him the shirt was causing much unrest, apparently because his fellow travelers assumed his name was Inigo Montoya and he was an overly forward terrorist spelling his intentions out via his novelty shirt. Spoiler alert: he was not. Fortunately or unfortunately, he didn’t have anything to change into, and after saying she’d go find another shirt, the flight attendant apparently decided it wasn’t a huge deal and never followed through.

I am all for adding to the airport Brute Squad and being on the lookout for any troublemakers from Guilder, but I can’t support living in a world where travelers can’t pay homage to S. Morgenstern.

Here’s to hoping some good came out of this mess, and everyone who was worried went home and watched The Princess Bride.
