There are popular franchises, and then there's Star Wars. Generations grew up with the movies, as well as live-action shows that are available with a Disney+ subscription. There are countless questions about upcoming Star Wars movies and TV shows, and actor Timothy Olyphant recently had a hilariously uncomfortable reaction when Craig Melvin pushed him for questions about his character Cobb Vanth. Let's break it all down.
The Mandalorian and Grogu underperformed in theaters, but fans are still eager for any information about their adventures on the small screen. Olyphant starred in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, and during an appearance on The Today Show, he was "interrogated" about his future in George Lucas' franchise. Nice try, Craig. As you can see from the above post, Timothy Olyphant wasn't taking the bait and refused to confirm or deny that he'd be back as Cobb Vanth in a future Star Wars project. And I love how flustered he got before coming back at the Today Show journalist and calling his interview an interrogation. Hey, at least he's got a good sense of humor about it.
Fans have been curious about when we might see Vanth again since The Book of Boba Fett's finale revealed he was still alive and recovering in the Fett's bacta tank. Some folks were hoping Olyphant would appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, but that didn't happen.
At the start of the Scream actor's interview on Today, he mentioned his ongoing enthusiasm about Star Wars, saying:
Listen, every six months I text those people and I say 'Listen, just me and my character both not dead.' I'm always letting them know. So we'll see.
Ultimately, the journalist wasn't satisfied with this ending, and pushed back, asking Timothy Olyphant if he knows anything about his future as Cobb Vanth. After some give and take, the 58-year-old star jokingly responded with:
I can't, I'm sworn to secrecy. Listen, what is this? This is now an interrogation. This was a set, of a lovely hang. And now it's turned into an interrogation.
Olyphant laughed it off, and the clip of this interview is thoroughly delightful thanks to how exasperated he was by all the Star Wars questions. After all, it's already been a number of years since he was last seen in The Book of Boba Fett. So he probably wasn't expecting this line of questioning while appearing on The Today Show. But given the popularity of Star Wars, perhaps he should expect these queries for the foreseeable future.
The next Star Wars movie hitting theaters will be Ryan Gosling's Starfighter on May 28th, 2027. The Mandalorian and Grogu recently hit theaters as part of the 2026 movie release list and is expected to arrive on Disney+ in the fall.
