Who Ben Affleck Is Writing His Batman Movie With, According To Kevin Smith

No matter what you think of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, chances are that you probably found yourself floored by Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman. In one movie the man has already cemented his place as one of the best on-screen Dark Knights ever. That being said, he’s far from done. We’ve known for some time that Ben Affleck has been working on a solo Batman movie, and now, according to Kevin Smith, it seems he’s getting some help from DC guru and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.

During a recent live recording of Kevin Smith’s Fatman on Batman podcast in Detroit, the Fatman himself revealed that Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck have collaborated on a solo Batman project:

He's been working on a solo script with Geoff Johns, as well. Last conversation I had with Geoff Johns, I was like, ‘Are you working on it?’ and he said yeah. I said, ‘What's it like, man? How do you co-write with someone?’ And he's going, ‘We just break it up. He takes halves and I take halves and then we write. And then we switch material. And then he goes over mine and I go over his.’ That sounds so fucking fun man.

From the sound of things, it seems as though Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck have shared the workload evenly on the Batman script. They take turns, alternating between portions of the screenplay and then providing notes to one another. If the guy who made Argo can team up with the guy who has consistently published awesome Justice League stories, then we think that sounds like a recipe for success. Of course this is all hearsay, but based upon Kevin Smith's unbridaled enthusiasm, we think there's something special brewing behind the scenes.

If Ben Affleck is going to have someone in his corner to help him on a solo Batman film, there’s few better resources than Geoff Johns. A modern icon in the world of comics, Johns has cemented his position as a legend with his work on comic books such as Batman: Earth One, Justice League: Origins, and too many Green Lantern stories to count. He understands the DC universe in a way the very few can rival, and likely represents a major asset who perfectly complements Ben Affleck’s already admirable filmmaking chops.
