What Sylvester Stallone Loved About Working On Guardians 2

Sylvester Stallone as Rocky in Creed

Superhero movies are just about everywhere. Between the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, and Fox's X-Men franchise, you can't turn a corner without bumping into some fool in tights trying to save the day. And considering how popular the genre is, it seems like just about everyone is jumping at the opportunity to adapt a comic book character for the silver screen. For James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this includes the great Sylvester Stallone, who will be playing the role of Starhawk in the highly anticipated sequel. And now he's opened up about what that process is like.

During the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press event in Los Angeles, Sylvester Stallone had the chance to speak about his first experience on a Marvel set. It turns out he loved jumping into the genre, saying:

Actually, it was pretty painless. It was interesting because I love [Marvel] films, but I haven't ventured into the genre, so it was quite an experience. When I walked on the set, [I saw] robots and things, a woman who was seven feet tall, and everything else. I thought, 'This is great. This is a great vacation. It's better than being up a tree in Burma,' you know what I mean?

Despite being in the business for decades, it looks like Sylvester Stallone is just as nerdy as the rest of us. All of the aliens and set pieces involved in Guardians 2 seemed to delight the Rocky actor, as he escaped his regular schedule and stepped into the MCU's outer galaxy.

While Sylvester Stallone has done plenty of action movies, he hasn't actually jumped into the superhero genre until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Sure, Rambo and Rocky Balboa are superpowered in their own right, but they're not coming straight from the pages of Marvel or DC comics.

But this will change with Guardians 2, as Sylvester Stallone will be playing Stakar Ogord/ Starhawk in the sequel. A leader of the Ravagers, it should be interesting to see how Stallone's involvement affects the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. The MCU is fond of crossovers, and with the characters coming together to battle Thanos in Infinity War, maybe we could end up seeing Stallone's character make a bigger wave in the universe as a whole. The Russo Brothers have been keeping the contents of Infinity War close to the chest, so only time will tell.

We've got another week or so before we can finally see Sylvester Stallone's MCU debut. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will arrive in theaters May 5, 2017, complete with Sylvester Stallone's Starhawk. In the meantime, be sure to checkout our full 2017 premiere list and plan your next trip to the movies.
