Now that it’s clear Desperate Housewives is entering its final season, the show’s producers are preparing to go out in memorable style. New rumors hit the street today regarding the direction the last season will take, including a possible – and substantial – leap forward in time and who may or may not kick the bucket in the final season.
It’s probably for the best, though. While Desperate Housewives is still pulling strong international ratings, it would only be a matter of time before the show pulled an E.R. or a Law and Order or a Grey’s, and lost American audiences completely. If ABC has a show in mind to fill the ratings niche, the network will do fine. Even if the network hasn’t found a sure thing, the cancellation will at least facilitate going in a new direction
Are the ladies of Desperate Housewives soon to be in search of new employment? ABC is expected to make a decision soon on bringing back the series for the 2012-2013 season as it comes up against new challenges this season. It’s possible we will be saying goodbye to the residents of Wisteria Lane at the end of this season.
ABC has all of their ducks (and planes, angels, dancing celebrities, and modern families) in a row for the Fall 2011 primetime TV lineup. The network announced the schedule today, which includes super-sized premieres for Modern Family, The Middle, and Grey’s Anatomy, among others.
In some “That show’s still on?” news, the four core actors in Desperate Housewives are locking in deals for at least one more season. Assuming everything goes as planned, this will bring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria back for Season 8 of ABC’s Sunday night dramedy, with an option for Season 9.
