The people have spoken, or judging by the list of winners among the TV categories of the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, the young people have spoken, with Pretty Little Liars, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries among the series that went home with awards last night.
Pretty Little Liars is currently mid-way through its second season, with the first part having aired last summer and the remaining twelve episodes set to air this coming January. Fans of the ABC Family drama can rejoice, not only because the series will be back in just over a month, but also because it’s been renewed for a third season.
While the celebrities most beloved by today’s teens are likely to be searching for a place to display an award shaped like a giant surfboard, the Teen Choice ratings are in. The event, which aired on Fox last night, didn’t win the night, but numbers are up for teen viewers. Meanwhile, The CW has cause to celebrate, having taken home more awards than any other network.
ABC Family became the second network ever to receive a rating of Excellent from GLAAD for its portrayal of gay and lesbian characters in the organization’s yearly Network Responsibility Index. The Index rates networks on the percentage of their programming that is “LGBT-inclusive” as well as for the racial diversity of those characters and the light in which they are portrayed; ABC Family has made the grade.
Summer shows deserve love too, right? Fox posted more nominees for the 2011 Teen Choice Awards and among the added categories are Choice Summer TV Show, and Choice Summer TV Star (Male/Female). ABC Family’s The Nine Lives of Chloe King also managed to score some nominations for Choice Breakout Show, and Breakout Star.
We’re just two episodes into Season Two of Pretty Little Liars and things are heating up, fast. “A” doesn’t give the show’s leading ladies a second to breathe after their dangerous run-in with Ian during the finale of Season One. While things get tougher for Emily and the gang on the screen, actress Shay Mitchell is reaping the benefits. Sure Mitchell had a bit of television experience prior to the show, but ever since the start of Pretty Little Liars back in June of last year, not only has Mitchell’s fan base grown quite a bit, but she’s become a stronger actress and gained some great new friends, too.
ABC Family’s set to start the summer with a new drama series. We have some clips from the premiere episode of Pretty Little Liars, which stars Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse.
