What Nathan Fillion Is Doing Now That Castle Is Over

It's been a whole month since Castle took its final bow as part of ABC's schedule. The sting of the cancellation has been blunted a bit by the fact that most of our favorite TV shows are on hiatus for the summer, but when the series doesn't return this fall, I think most Caskett fans will be feeling the loss of the ABC drama rather keenly. Luckily, if you simply can't stand the idea of no longer having series lead Nathan Fillion in your life, the actor has a couple of big projects coming up that should tickle your fancy.

First and foremost, if you've enjoyed the projects Nathan Fillion has accomplished in the past, like Firefly and, of course, Castle, he has another TV project coming. It's Season 2 of Con Man, a series Fillian stars in and produces alongside his former Firefly costar Alan Tudyk. The first season hit the schedule on Vimeo last fall and was successful enough that a second season was commissioned. However, Season 2 will air as part of the new lineup on the subscription-based service Comic-Con HQ. Expect even more great guest stars in the second batch of episodes.

If you don't want to add yet another streaming subscription to your monthly bills, Nathan Fillion is also set to appear in the upcoming movie Henchmen and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the latter he is potentially set to play a character named Simon Williams who becomes a superhero in Marvel's comics but who will probably only appear in a pre-hero capacity in the upcoming movie. More info on that role here.

Both of these were roles that Nathan Fillion signed on for while Castle was still airing on ABC, but they should hopefully tide us over while the actor looks around for other leading gigs. In fact, after Castle was cancelled, Nathan Fillion joked about his newly open scheduling on Twitter, saying:

Dear Every Director, it appears I have an opening in my schedule.

While some actors are able to grab another series right away--here's looking at you, Michael Weatherly--sometimes it takes a pilot or two before a well-liked actor lands another TV show. Nathan Fillion has a huge fanbase and is a pretty likable human, so it should just be about finding the right project. As soon as he does land a leading role somewhere else, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, new episodes of Con Man will be available this winter and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is expected to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. You can also find out what TV shows have yet to premiere this summer with our TV schedule.
