HBO To Retain Liev Schreiber As Sole Voice Of HBO Sports

The best voiceover dudes have found a way to be familiar and coaxing at the same time. NBC’s voice over dude has probably been the most recent one to get stuck in my head, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been many other great voice over names in the past. One of the most prolific talents is that of actor Liev Schreiber, who has been the voice of HBO Sports for the past sixteen years. With an upcoming pilot and a contract negotiation on the horizon, it almost looked like Schreiber would lose his throne as the sole voice of HBO sports.

Shreiber recently signed on to star in the new Showtime pilot, Ray Donavon. Around the same time, his overall deal with HBO was coming to term. Perhaps because of this Deadline predicted Schreiber would not be signing a new contract, with insiders stating HBO planned to work with a variety of sources over the coming year in sports.

This wouldn’t have been all bad news for Schreiber. HBO still had plans to implement Schreiber in the upcoming 24/7 documentary following the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers on The Road To The NHL Winter Classic, as well as some future projects. Luckily, there is some great news rather than some not totally bad news for Schreiber. HBO has changed its mind and will retain Schreiber as the sole voice of HBO Sports. It’s a deal to be able to work with two pay cable networks that are both producing awesome programming, and I hope Schreiber has a hell of a lot of fun with it.
