HBO Films' Hemingway & Gellhorn explores the love affair between the famous writers, including a nine-year marriage that spanned the Spanish Civil War through World War II. Directed by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Philip Kaufman, the epic made for television event stars Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman in the titular roles or Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn. Most of the promotional material that HBO has released so far has largely focused on the acclaimed leading actors and this latest 'Conversation With Nicole, Clive and Phil' featurette obviously isn't much different. Take a look.

The featurette doesn't offer much in terms of new footage but it does slightly shift the emphasis to Martha Gellhorn who may be the central protagonist despite the two name title. And even if that's not necessarily the case and the sprawling film features each writer equally, the featurette is still certainly concerned with highlighting the female writer and the importance of, as 'Phil' puts it, telling her story and not just the fact that she was a woman doing what was traditionally a 'man's job' but because she was simply a great war correspondent. Kidman looks on top form and Owen, well, he's stuck following Corey Stoll's turn as Hemingway in Midnight in Paris, so I'm just hoping he can make me forget about that performance for at least the length of Hemingway & Gellhorn.

The self proclaimed 'epic motion picture event' certainly found the right director in Philip Kaufman whose previous accomplishments include the similarly epic The Right Stuff and The Unbearable Lightness of Being. This featurette does showcase some of the interesting stylistic choices Kaufman made to tell this decade-long, multi-conflit tale but for a better look at the historical motion picture watch this full trailer and the five-minute leaked look. They not only show the 'recreated' events in various tints, filters and tones but also the large ensemble of award winning actors like Robert Duvall and David Strathairn who also featured in the film.

Hemingway & Gellhorn premieres Monday, May 28 on HBO. It stars Nicole Kidman, Clive Owen, Robert Duvall, David Strathairn, Peter Coyote and Molly Parker. It was directed by Philip Kaufman.
