This Vampire Diaries Character Will Appear In The Originals

Crossover characters and plotlines can be a great way to engage fans and maybe even bring a few more eyeballs to a series. The Vampire Diaries and The Originals executive producer Julie Plec knows this, and has put together a very special storyline for The Originals’ sophomore season that will bring a character from The Vampire Diaries into The Originals fold. Veteran Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev is set to guest star on The Originals during Season 2.

The obvious guess would be that Dobrev would venture to the big easy as Elena, a present-day vampire from Mystic Falls. However, as Vampire Diaries fans probably already know, Elena is one of a line of Petrova doppelgängers who were created by an immortal woman known as Amara. The show has also had Dobrev play doppelgängers Katherine and Tatia, and it will actually be one of the doppelgängers that will appear in a guest role on The Originals.

In an interview with E!, showrunner Julie Plec releases the juicy information that Dobrev will pop up on the series as Tatia, the doppelgänger who used to have ties to both Elijah and Klaus. Plec convinced the actress to pop up in an episode of The Originals, noting that the gig was written as a flashback sequence and that Dobrev got to wear a “great period wig” when shooting the episode. If you’d like to catch Dobrev with yet another hairstyle, you should tune in for the 5th episode of The Originals Season 2, which will air on the CW on November 3.

Plec also notes there are other ways the two hit supernatural dramas could find ways to tie into one another in the future.

“Well, there’s a lot of people that could cross over, and when we plan our crossovers, we like to think of like the most clever way to integrate The Vampire Diaries mythology into The Originals mythology.”

It might seem obvious that there might be other opportunities to bring The Originals and The Vampire Diaries mythology together. After all, Klaus, Rebekah, Elijah, Hayley and more all originated on The Vampire Diaries before spinning off into their own show.

It’ll still be a while before Dobrev makes her big appearance on The Originals. The good news is that fans don’t have to wait too much longer for either CW series to premiere. The Vampire Diaries will hit the schedule first, airing its Season 6 premiere on Thursday, October 2 at 8 p.m. EST. The Originals will follow with its Season 2 premiere on Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. EST. You can check out the rest of the premiere schedule, here.
