However, shows have started killing off characters in rapid fashion, to the point where some of the deaths of characters are not as affecting as they should be. This year, we've put together a list of the worst. We bet you'll groan once or twice while reading.

TV has been killing people off for a long time. And every so often, shows have been bringing those people back to audiences that had largely accepted the fact that the characters were gone. Here are 9 of them.

Revenge as a series may be over, but in an era where long cancelled series can be brought back from the dead, is any series ever truly over? The President of ABC had a few words regarding the future of Revenge and they were more than a little surprising.

It’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of Revenge’s long and storied run on ABC. For four seasons, we’ve seen Amanda “Emily” Clarke and Victoria Greyson torment one another. Now the final episode is drawing near and it promises plenty of drama.

It looks like Emily Thorne is out of the vengeance business, as the hit drama Revenge will officially be coming to an end after the Season 4 finale.

We’ve compiled a list of the current TV shows that we feel have officially jumped the track. They’ve been on too long or maybe their characters have started to make nonsensical decisions. Perhaps their writing staff has been cut due to budget restraints. Whatever the reason, these are the nine shows on TV that are officially off the rails.

Revenge has been full of twists and turns across its first three seasons, but ABC’s drama has planned yet another interesting arc for Season 4. This week the network announced that Yeardley Smith will be joining Revenge during the brand new season, and if you don’t recognize the name, think spiky yellow hair and a shiny saxophone.

ABC has released its 2014-2015 lineup. It includes a slight move for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which will return for Season 2 this fall, but will air an hour later than usual. Meanwhile, Scandal and Grey's Anatomy have been shifted up on the Thursday night schedule.

While we might have expected renewals for shows like Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and Modern Family, the fate of some of ABC's new series was a bit less certain. But word is coming down the pipeline for many of them, and it's good news for Resurrection and The Goldbergs, which join Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. among ABC's freshman series that will be back for Season 2 in the 2014-2015 season.

If you’re a Sunday night drama on ABC or CBS, you’re probably having the best day ever. Because the numbers are in and dramas are all on the upswing, gobbling viewers away (even when the footballers are at play). Sorry, comedy — looks like Sunday just ain’t your day. The last night of the weekend has become a hotbed for dramatic activities and with the revelations from this weekend’s ratings it’s safe to assume that comedy should just look to broadcast itself elsewhere.

It's at this point in the summer that you're either too busy with summer fun to have time for television, or you're sunburnt and sick of barbecue and looking for some alone time, just you and your Netflix. The thing is, Netflix is like a virtual buffet. The thought of feasting on all of the goodies is exciting, but a little bit overwhelming.

Revenge worked its way through a lot of characters during Season 2, killing some off and conveniently disposing of many others. In addition to those leaving the show toward or at the end of last season, ABC’s hit drama announced earlier this week that series regular Ashley Madekwe will not be returning to Revenge in Season 3.

ABC has posted their 2013-2014 line-up of new and returning series, which gives us a look at the plan for the network's schedule for the fall. The network has moved The Neighbors over to Friday nights, to join Last Man Standing, and fill the gap left by Malibu Country. Meanwhile, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on Tuesday nights, ahead of new comedies The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, which are sandwiched between another new drama, Lucky 7.

Should Revenge return next fall for a third season, it will be doing so without its creator. Showrunner Mike Kelley is reportedly stepping down from his duties but will be available on a consulting basis after the series wraps up its second season. It sounds like this was a mutual decision between Kelley and ABC Studios.

Revenge has already featured plenty of drama drama in its sophomore season on ABC, but audiences ain't seen nothing, yet. The soapy drama is setting up for a spectacular season finale on May 12 and will be giving fans a special two-hour episode to finish out the season.

Tonight Revenge fans won’t get their weekly dose of the Amanda/Emily saga, thanks to the Super Bowl dominating the Sunday night airwaves. However, when the show returns to ABC’s schedule on February 10, Revenge has some big surprises for viewers, including a wedding and a honeymoon that doesn’t look like it will end well.

Inspired by tonight's premiere of NBC's new drama Do No Harm, we came up with our list of characters with a hidden dark side. These aren't merely characters leading secret lives, or suffering from some uncontrollable Jekyll & Hyde complex. These are characters who present themselves with one personality to the public, often including their seemingly closest friends, but are secretly harboring a dark and dangerous side that comes out in other circumstances and adds a layer or two of complexity to who they really are.

E! is still pushing scripted programming pretty hard. The network is working to determine what scripted projects will go to pilot, and now E! has added yet another project to the pile. Called Shoreline, the network's newest project will follow a resident returning to a seaside town, only to find it overrun with the cast and crew of a popular soap opera called The Shore Line Yacht Club. The appearance of the show and its cast and crew causes clashes between the townies and the visitors, who come from different social stratospheres.
