The Fame reboot couldn’t live up to its predecessor, but at least it can live forever on DVD. According to DVD Active, Fame will dance its way onto DVD and Blu-ray on January 12th, 2010.
Just like the 1980 original, Fame gives you a look at a bunch of students’ experiences during their four-year enrollment at a high school for the performing arts. There’s Jenny (Kay Panabaker), a timid actress looking to break out of her shell; Denise (Naturi Naughton), a talented classical pianist who really wants to sing; Malik (Collins Pennie), an actor and aspiring rapper with an attitude; Marco (Asher Book), an excellent singer who breezes through school; Alice (Kherington Payne), the school’s best dancer; Victor (Walter Perez), a keyboardist determined to become a music producer; Kevin (Paul McGill), a country boy who moves to the city to pursue his dream of becoming a ballet dancer; Joy (Anna Maria Perez de Tagle), a gifted actress but struggling student; and Neil, a wacky wannabe director.
I think I covered just about everyone. Well, everyone minus the teachers who are played by Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, Charles S. Dutton, and 1980 Fame alum, Debbie Allen. Fame is far from quality but will surely entertain music lovers, particularly those of a younger generation. The buying options include a DVD for $29.98 and a BD for $39.99, both of which will have the theatrical and extended dance editions of the film. As for special features, the trade ad says both will come with deleted scenes and "more." The Blu-ray version will have a digital copy of the film.
