Hang Out In Peter Jackson's Heaven With The Lovely Bones On DVD April 20th

Warning to anyone reading The Lovely Bones in school who thinks the film version will be an adequate substitute: it’s not. In fact, you really need to read the book in order to understand the movie. See for yourself when Paramount Home Entertainment releases The Lovely Bones on DVD and Blu-ray April 20th.

On her way home from school Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan) is murdered by her neighbor, George Harvey (Stanley Tucci). While her family struggles with her passing, she is pained by the effect it has on them as she watches from Heaven. Determined to catch the person accountable, Susie’s father, Jack (Mark Wahlberg), takes it upon himself to do some police work. Both Susie and her father must decide what’s more important, destroying the monster responsible or letting themselves heal and move on.

The Lovely Bones does not do its source material justice. Alice Sebold’s novel is far superior to Peter Jackson’s lofty adaptation. If you’re insistent on picking up a copy of this film, I adamantly suggest reading the book first. After you’ve done your homework, you can get The Lovely Bones on DVD for $19.99 or on Blu-ray for $29.99. According to DVD Active, the DVD version will not have any bonus material. The BD, on the other hand, boasts a 15-segment production diary hosted by Jackson and writer Philippa Boyens.
