Toshiba And RealD Working On 3D Televisions For 2010

Regardless of what you thought of the film itself, Avatar was one of the first movies that used 3D in a good way, subtly enhancing the experience rather than just serving as an excuse for over-the-top showboating ("And now I shall play ping pong while facing the camera!"). Quite frankly I would have enjoyed the movie just as well without having to wear a clunky pair of 3D glasses over my own glasses, but like it or not, 3D is the shiny new toy Hollywood is obsessed with at the moment. Now comes the news that we all knew was inevitable: that toy will be arriving in your living room, and sooner than you might have thought.

Toshiba and RealD today announced a partnership that will introduce 3D capabilities into some of their HD televisions in 2010. Sounds like you'll still need the clunky glasses, though, so I'm SOL until I get Lasik or some passing holy man rubs mud on my eyes. You can read all the details in the full press release below.
