Nintendo Announced Bayonetta 3 For The Switch, But That's Not All
The Game Awards was a big night for Switch fans, with plenty of games on Nintendo's new console earning hardware and even a couple of new games getting announced. Bayonetta 3 was finally revealed, for instance, as well as a little something-something for newcomers to the series.
Before Reggie Fils-Aime pulled back the curtain on Bayonetta 3 during The Game Awards, he announced that another Wii U title would be making the jump to Nintendo's new platform. Following in the footsteps of games like Mario Kart 8 and Pokken Tournament, it turns out that Bayonetta 2 will be making the leap to the Switch, giving a whole new audience a chance to enjoy the latest over-the-top romps from PlatinumGames. Even better, this version of Bayonetta 2 will include the original Bayonetta, meaning the full trilogy will eventually be available on the platform.
The Wii U suffered a pretty short lifespan, as the console never really gained traction with players. That's unfortunate, as quite a few fantastic games launched for the platform. In order to give some of those games a second lease on life, Nintendo has been bringing updated versions to the Switch. Some people call this filler, while I call it a great business decision. I'm personally thankful, because these are games I wanted to play but could never bring myself to pick up a Wii U to enjoy. And in case Nintendo is listening, I'd be even more thankful if y'all would hurry up and get Smash in the lineup.
I'm a sucker for these types of announcements, so when Fils-Aime started talking about how he didn't come all the way to The Game Awards just to make one announcement, my calm demeanor was masking an internal monologue of "What is it? What is it, Reggie?! TELL ME!!!" He then rolled out all of the Bayonetta details, including a launch date for Bayonetta 2 (Including the original game) of Feb. 16. If you pick up Bayonetta 2, the original will be available as a free download. That's a bit of a bummer considering the Switch's storage issues but, hey, it's hard to complain about a free game. Also, it isn't like Bayonetta had a multiplayer mode or anything, so it's the kind of game you can comfortably delete whenever you wrap up the campaign.
There were, of course, very few details concerning Bayonetta 3 outside of the fact that it's in development exclusively for the Switch. We figure this one's at least a year off at this point, but it's nice to know additional games are already lining up for the console.
