It looks like Warner Bros., is reviving Scribblenauts. The game originally came onto the scene in a huge way back in 2009 for Nintendo's handheld, and in just a few short years managed to become a household name. Well, after a short hiatus, Warner Bros., is bringing the brand back in the form of Scribblenauts Showdown, which is set to launch March 6th.

The company announced recently that the upcoming party game will be for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. That's right, this marks the first time that a Scribblenauts game will make its debut on Nintendo's hybrid home console, and it will aim to take advantage of the system's proprietary technology.

Scribblenauts Showdown will feature head-to-head modes as well as a four-player party game mode that consists of moving pieces along a board game of sorts. While on the board, players will have to progress through a series of events, completing challenges and mini-games along the way in order to reach the end and win the game. The description of the four-player mode seems to come across as being rather reminiscent of the party game mode from the Mario Party series.

Players will have to select cards from the deck and complete "Wordy" mini-games to unleash objects and items to help win the round. Scribblenauts Showdown will also contain a massive dictionary of more than 35 thousand words. Yes, apparently the new developers over the project, Shiver Entertainment, are pulling every single item from every previous Scribblenauts games to flesh out the entities and objects present in the upcoming game.

There's also a separate Versus Mode, where two players will go head-to-head in up to 25 different mini-games. In each session, you'll have to outwit and out-word your opponent in order to win. The mode can also be played in single-player against the AI, so if you want to hop in and play something quickly without having to get serious about dedicating a lot of time to the whole thing, you can do so.

In addition to the two competitive modes, there's also the return of Sandbox Mode. Now this is one of the series' staple modes, where players will have to complete a number of objectives setup for them, where summoning objects to complete the quests becomes mandatory. There are achievements to attain and an unfettered amount of creative freedom to explore while having fun in the sandbox.

New to the series is also the option to create your own Scribblenauts character, allowing each player to pick an avatar that best represents their visual sensibilities, not unlike the Mii options in games like Wii Sports or the newer entries in the Mario Kart series.

This will be Shiver Entertainment's first crack at the highly lauded family series following in the footsteps of 5th Cell, who used to develop the Scribblenauts games. The last outing was the superhero-themed Scribblenauts Unmasked back in 2013, before 5th Cell was reduced to a development shell. The series had been dormant since then.

Warner Bros. plans on releasing Scribblenauts Showdown for the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch starting March 6th later this year.
