Assassin's Creed 3 Has Four-Player Co-op?

Ubisoft may be taking Assassin's Creed 3 multiplayer into unexplored territory. The Xbox Live Marketplace listed the game as having online co-op for up to four players, which would be a first for the series.

The listing, spotted by Videogamer, has since been edited. There's no longer any mention of co-op. Interpret that however you want. It's possible that Ubisoft simply didn't want information on that feature leaking out yet, or that Microsoft goofed on the listing.

Co-op would be an interesting feature in AC. Recent games have toyed with the idea of the main character having Assassin henchmen at his beck and call. Perhaps they'll allow players to take on the role of these underlings to assist their friends?

Xbox Live Marketplace also mentions the game will have "Online multiplayer 2-8," which seems to confirm that the competitive modes will return. AC: Brotherhood and Revelations allowed players to engage in Assassin-versus-Assassin battles that valued stealth and surprise above all.

Assassin's Creed 3 was formally announced with a trailer yesterday. It's set during the American Revolution and stars a brand new hero. It's in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U.
