EA At E3: Facebreaker Details

Facebreaker’s irreverent humor has been adamantly shown off in character trailers in recent months. It’s not every day you see a cartoon version of what appears to be the Star Wars kid in full ninja gear doing flips and smacking foes around. At E3 publisher EA is opening the floodgates on most of its biggest titles, and Facebreaker is among them.

The arcade fighter is being developed by the same team behind Fight Night Round 3, so they already know their boxing simulators. But now they’re bringing that great gameplay to something a bit different. If characters like Romeo, a Latin lover with a devastating pelvic thrust, doesn’t move you then go ahead and upload your own photo to create a character using Photo Game Face.

And if beating your opponent isn’t reward enough you get to collect their head and mount them on your trophy wall. I’m all for humiliating my opponent, but isn’t that a bit much? And creepy. How do you explain the head of a masked ninja on the locker room wall when the wife comes to cheer you on? The development team has been making strides to ensure that new and seasoned boxing game players can pick up and pummel upon starting Facebreaker. Of course saying they’re doing that is nice, but actually doing it is what counts.

One of the more interesting, and potentially fun, features is what EA is calling “Couch Royale.” Despite its distinct marketing speak quality the idea is great. Essentially you play the game bout by bout and pass the controller around the room to let the whole gang play. Knockdowns carry over to the next round so that a seasoned player may find themselves at a disadvantage when they get their hands on the controller.
