Pokemon X and Y players will soon have a new Pokemon to add to their collection. Diancie is a Mythical Pokemon with both Rock and Fairy characteristics.
Mythical Pokemon are as rare and powerful as Legendary Pokemon. The difference, though, is that Mythicals are typically only available through special events. They typically don't evolve into a higher form.
Diancie looks like a rock wearing a white dress. It also has a headdress made of pink crystals. A couple pointy ears jut out from another the headdress. It looks strange but what Pokemon doesn't, really?
"Diancie can create diamonds out of thin air by compressing the carbon in the atmosphere with its hands," Nintendo says of the new Pokemon. "It uses these jewels in battle to attack enemies and protect itself."
The Fairy type was introduced in X and Y. Other Fairy Pokemon include Sylveon, Marill and Jigglypuff. This type matches up well against the Dark, Bug and Fighting types. It's also immune to Dragon moves. As a result, Fairy is one of the best defensive types in the game.
Rock, meanwhile, is one of the best offensive types. Only three types have resistance against Rock attacks, and only a select few Pokemon have double resistance. A Fairy/Rock hybrid, particularly a Mythical one, sounds like it could be very powerful, then.
The Pokemon X and Y website says that Diancie tend to hang out with groups of Carbink, another Fairy/Rock type. It's possible that Diancie is the evolved form of Carbink. Nintendo has yet to confirm how players can acquire this Pokemon, though.

It's also unknown when Diancie will be added to the game. Additional details will be shared soon by the developers. In the meantime, they've shared the first screenshots and trailer of the Mythical Pokemon.
Diancie will also appear in the next Pokemon movie. The Pokemon will join Ash on a quest to find the Legendary Xerneas. Fellow Legendary Yveltal will also make an appearance. The movie will debut in Japan this summer.
