Tecmo Bowl, Wonderful 101, Zelda II Arrive On Nintendo Consoles

It’s yet another interesting week over on the Nintendo eShop and Virtual Console, offering the full version of The Wonderful 101 for Wii U users and a handful of other games, demos and sales for both Nintendo’s home console and the portable 3DS.

This week’s Wii U eShop offerings begin with The Wonderful 101, a superhero action game full of wild wonders and wacky adventures.

“Lead a team of the world’s strongest and strangest superheroes to fight off a massive alien invasion,” reads an announcement from Nintendo. “As Wonderful Red, leader of the Wonderful 100, unite a mob of heroes to morph into powerful transformations such as a fist, sword, glider and gun to battle aliens throughout Blossom City.”

If you’re looking to take out the city’s trash while wearing tights and a granite-chinned smile, then you can grab the virtual version of The Wonderful 101 starting this Sunday.

This week’s other big offering on the Wii U is Zelda II: The Adventure of Link or, as I like to call it, “that Nintendo game in the golden cartridge that I played for hours but never finished because I was terrible at it.”

Zelda II featured an open map similar to its predecessor but, when you came into contact with monsters, this iteration shifted to a brief 2D side-scrolling sequence where you would duke it out with baddies. Dungeons were also explored this fashion, giving Zelda II a unique look and play style that was never really duplicated in the series’ long and storied history.

For those looking to save a little money, Toki Tori 2+ will be on sale in the Wii U eShop through Sept. 19. This updated version of the game features an expanded soundtrack, additional puzzles and more. For the next week, Toki Tori 2+ can be yours for just $8.99.

Onto the 3DS, the sales continue with Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo and Bike Rider DX. Little Acorn can be stored for the winter for just $3.99 through Oct. 2 whie Bike Rider DX will be discounted to just $2.99 through Oct. 10.

The latest 3DS RPG, Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl can be tried for free beginning Aug. 16 as the 3DS eShop updates with a demo version of the game. There are also a trio of educational titles for youngsters hitting the virtual store shelves this week, including Letter Challenge and a Tales to Enjoy! version of both Little Red Riding Hood and Puss in Boots.

If, however, you are ready for some football with an old school twist, then you might want to check out Tecmo Bowl for the 3DS Virtual Console. One of the most beloved classic gridiron showdowns has finally been brought to the 3DS in all its 8-bit glory. With football season just now kicking off, Nintendo couldn’t have picked a better time to unleash this sporty classic.
