This article probably would have been more useful a week ago, but let’s be honest: we didn’t know what the heck was going to be on sale a week ago. If you’re not a wee-bit pissed that this news is only a few days away from the big sales event of the holiday season, then you can take a gander at a few laptops worth the purchase for your mobile-gaming needs.
Now just so we’re clear, not every laptop on this list is specifically setup as a gaming rig, but within its price range and for what they’re worth, gamers who are looking for something adequate enough to game-on while on the go can find something spiffy and affordable enough with the following laptops below.
Asus G60JX Gaming Laptop
Many places are offering up a number of laptops that range from home business use to hardcore gaming. While I warned that not every laptop would be gaming oriented on this list, the Asus G60JX is definitely primed and ready for the latest and greatest games. If you can grab this laptop from a brick and mortar retailer on Black Friday then you’re in for a treat because it comes packed with a 500 GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, an Intel i5-430M processor and, get this, an Nvidia GTS360M with Windows 7 pre-installed and a 16-inch monitor. That’s pretty rad, right? Of course it is. Amazon is having a sale on this particular laptop if you’re interested or you can try to snag one from an electronics retailer once Friday rolls around.
Sony Vaio Pentium Dual Core Entertainment Pack
For Black Friday only, Best Buy will have deals on several brands of laptops definitely worth keeping an eye on. However, not all the laptops are worth the purchase if you’re going in with the intention of picking up something for mobile gaming. If you want something with a bit of power under the hood and a sleek and sexy design, then the Sony Vaio is definitely the way to go. 4GB of Ram, a 15 inch monitor and a built-in Blu-Ray player will not only make this a decent laptop to play games like Call of Duty: Black Ops or Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood on, but it’s equally viable for watching the latest and greatest in Blu-Ray movies. This special Black Friday deal will see this particular entertainment pack available for only $499 and comes with a carrying bag and a free copy of The Karate Kid on Blu-Ray. Not a bad deal.
Acer Aspire AS5742-7653 Notebook
Come Black Friday, this Acer Aspire Notebook will be available for the low low price of $499. Actually, that isn’t all that low, but it comes with an Intel i5-460M processor with turbo boost functionality. The standard-fare 4GB of RAM and a built-in webcam will make it convenient to chat with friends while playing your favorite games. The only downside is that it has a built-in Intel HD graphics card, which we all know is pretty much craptacular, although it’s at least DirectX 10 compatible, so it’s not all a bust. Nevertheless, so long as you don’t need to play your games on the absolute highest settings available then you should be able to get by with this moderately priced, high-speed laptop with its 15 inch monitor and 500GB hard disk. This is probably a good laptop to play MMOs while on the go, but you might need something more hardcore if you want to play stuff like Medal of Honor or Unreal Tournament 3.
Dell XPS 15 Gaming Laptop
With the exception of the Alienware brand, I have no love for Dell whatsoever. Still, the XPS isn’t a bad way to go for mobile gaming and I’ll concede my frustrations with Dell’s lack of longevity in their Inspiron brand to at least say that the XPS 15’s massive 1GB GeForce GT 420M video card (which is just insanely powerful for a laptop, just so you know) and 6GB of Ram makes the XPS 15 a must have for any gamer looking to put in some serious, high-end gaming with recent releases and upcoming titles like The Witcher 2 or Crysis 2. Gamers looking to grab this bad boy for the Black Friday budget price will have to click the link above and purchase the Dell XPS 15 using the eValue Code 00522-DNPHGE1 on this particular model.
Here’s the top of the crop right here. While the HP Pavilion dv7 doesn’t have a whooping 1GB video card it does have the respectable ATI HD 5x and a massive 17.3 inch monitor. What’s more is that this thing is powered by an unbelievable triple core AMD II core at 2.2ghz per processor. Staples has a special deal on this particular brand of the HP Pavilion dv7 and unlike the standard dv7 Entertainment series, this particular laptop is designed with the option to switch out the video card. So while you’re beating the crap out of people in Alliance of Valiant Arms or World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and you get that inescapable BSOD (blue screen of death) you can just swap out the old card and plug in something even more powerful so you can get back to gaming. And isn’t that what the holidays are all about? Being lazy and gaming all day long on a computer you got from Black Friday? Of course it is.
