Weekly Recap Jan. 31: Square Enix, Section 8, Superbowl

A fruitful week of gaming news this week turned out to be. A relatively unknown Section 8 became the talk of the gaming town, Nintendo received a little fair treatment from Blend Games’ own Rich Knight, and a review of Skate 2 rolled right through our doors. These and more news items strolled across the Blend Games’ headlines between January 25th and January 31st.

Sunday

Braid creator hinting at new project? Yep, a new project from the creator of the XBLA hit indie-title Braid could be coming soon. You might want check out the news article to see why the next game could be more important than one of the best indie titles of 2008.

Monday

Metal Gear Online was updated with a new mode. Bomb running, bomb stopping and player blasting is all the rage now on MG: Online. Metal Gear fans can check out what the new update brings and how it’ll improve the overall experience of saving the world or trying to destroy a small part of it.

Sims 3 could be delayed again. With 30,000 or so add-ons for the original Sims and Sims 2 to keep gamers busy before the release of the Sims 3, it shouldn’t be too much of a letdown to know that the third installment could see a few more delays before launch. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just won’t die! And now they’re making a return to the Nintendo Wii. Ubisoft is bringing back those green fighting machines, and let’s hope it's not for the worse. Let the link portal you through to the rest of the details concerning these cartoon kung-fu icons.

Wednesday

While Final Fantasy XIII is already scheduled for release on the 360, there could be another Final Fantasy game coming to the new white box. There’s even more important news about Square Enix, but for now I think a new Final Fantasy game is enough to warrant a clicksy.

Star Ocean screenshots for the Xbox 360. Our revenge against Square’s antics come in the form of a few wordy jabs with the release of some new Star Ocean IV screenshots. Nothing serious, though. Just enough to get the blood boiling is all.

Friday

Four Need 4 Speed games are in development. Oh boy, I guess it takes more than a tumble down a hill to crack a head of stone. The recent NFS flop wasn’t enough to detour Electronic Arts from the flailing franchise, so they’re reinventing it. Read the full story to find out how the series is expected to make a comeback.

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA was announced on Friday. It made big news on the aggregators and that’s saying something. Lots of hoop-la was shouted over this game and it might cure your curiosity to click the link and read about this interesting new title.

Blood Bowl’s Superbowl promotional campaign seemed to work well. Friday was the wrap up for the game’s week long trailer revelations. This is probably the best of all the trailers and so that’s why it deserves a notable mention here in our Weekly Recap.

DJ Hero is coming to give you turntable junkies a fix. Need some techno, hip-hop, industrial break-beats to mix up the boring and stale Guitar Hero rock anthems? No problem, there’s an answer coming in the form of DJ Hero. Info, insights and a release date can be found in the link.

Saturday

Star Wars The Old Republic MMO receives a developer update. A new video documentary has surfaced for the Star Wars MMO, featuring a look at one of the planets in the game. Star Wars Fans, KotOR junkies and sci-fi nerds will probably find it hard to stop salivating over the news. Well, what are you waiting around here for? Click the link and start the salivating.

Batman Arkham Asylum is scheduled for a Summer release. Big news for the big, bad, bat in black. Celebrating the summer release is a new trailer that details a bit more of the story. Seems like a pretty cool game. Plus, the trailers kick major butt.

X-Men Origins trailer released for Wolverine. More superhero news to round out the day, this time with the Marvel hothead, Wolverine. The trailer is kind of cool and the graphics are superb. Now let’s just hope the game doesn’t suck.

Next week should be even bigger yet as we head into the month of February; new games, new releases and hopefully KillZone 2 will release and we won’t have to hear anymore about it.
